Inspirations

by Fania Greenwood

March 2- April 30, 2023

Artist Statement:

Fania’s inspirations rise from the French Post Impressionism, Cubism and Pop Art of the Twentieth Century. Her work reflects the work of so many artists, designers, illustrators and sculptors who had a profound influence on her work because of the colors, shapes, strength and whimsicalness. Just to name a few: Yayoi Kusama, Alexander Calder, Pablo Picasso, Andy Warhol, Jack Youngerman, Allessandro Mendini, Keith Haring, Gustav Klimt, Joan Miro, Henri Matisse, and Gary Baseman. Working mostly on canvas or board, she creates vibrant and colorful collages with acrylics, graffiti images, patterns, fabrics, textured materials, found objects and printed materials.
“Here are a few quotes that help guide my creativity:
  • Art should disturb the comfortable and comfort the disturbed. – Anonymous
  • There is no must in art because art is free. – Wassily Kandinsky
  • There are no rules to creativity. – Laura Jaworski
  • It isn’t until the painter has no idea what he’s doing that he makes good paintings. – Edgar Degas
  • Art is anything you can get away with. – Andy Warhol
  • Imagination is more important than knowledge. – Albert Einstein”

Brief Biography:

Fania was born post World War II in France.  While growing up in the very old city of Lyon, her passion for art began at a young age as she studied Fashion Design, Pattern Making as well as French Cooking. Fania soaked up as much of the French culture as she could and brought it with her when she moved to the United States in the 1970’s. She traveled around a lot during her first years in the US, majored in Color & Design and Sculpture at Idaho State University before settling in Charlotte where she studied Graphic Design and Photography. She worked in those fields for nearly 35 years while raising her three children.  Now, as a retired “Grand-Ma”, Fania finally has the time and energy to do the painting she always wanted to do.
A note from the artist:
I want to thank the TCA Gallery for giving me a chance to have this second show dedicated to my children who have given me a studio to work at and so much support through these last 3 years. This show will not have been possible without them.
I pledge to make a donation to World Central Kitchen for each of the painting sold at the gallery.
