Itinerary and Program Activities: May 22 – June 3rd, 2023

Tour Guide: Charles Joyner, Professor Emeritus,NCSU

Days 1 and 2: Arrive in Ghana. Tour Guide information session. Tours of
Accra which will include the W.E.B. DuBois Center, National Museum, the
University of Ghana, and the Center for National Culture.

Days 3 and 4: Depart Accra for Eastern Region. Bead workshop at Cedi
Beads, Eastern Region. Overnight at Akosombo

Days 4, 5, and 6: Depart Eastern Region and travel to Kumasi in the Ashanti
Region. Tour the National Culture Center. Visit studios and view works of
contemporary artists and craftsmen practicing in West Africa. Visit Ntonso
(home of Adinkra prints used in fabric design), and Ahwiaa (where
woodcarvers produce the famous Ashanti stools and fertility dolls). Next day,
we will visit Bonwire, home of the colorful world famous Kente Cloth woven
on traditional looms. Afternoon visit to the Bronze (metals) Village.

Days 6, 7, and 8: Depart Kumasi and travel to Cape Coast in the Central
Region. Tour Cape Coast Slave Castle and participate in a walking tour of the

city. Visit studios and view works of contemporary artists and craftsmen
practicing in West Africa. Lunch at Brenu Beach. Depart Cape Coast for Accra.
Days 8 and 9. Visit Artist Alliance Gallery where artist and craftsmen from
various countries in West Africa exhibit their artwork. Enjoy a final day for
individual exploration, reflections, and shopping.

Day 10: Depart Accra for the USA.

$5,800 (Double Occupancy) includes:
